Podenco Andaluz

The Podenco Andaluz, or Andalusian Podenco varies in looks and size. Bred for hunting, as the name suggests, they originated in the Andalusia region of Spain. It’s one of the Mediterranean sighthounds directly descended from the early Egyptian hounds.

There are several different recognised coat varieties of the Podenco Andaluz - Long haired, Wire Haired and Short Haired.

They also come in three main sizes:

Small - 12 to 17 inches // 30 to 43cm // 5-11kg

Medium - 16 to 21 inches // 40 to 53cm // 8-18kg

Large - 20 to 25 inches // 50 to 63cm // 22-33kg

The Podenco Andaluz colour varieties are - Cinnamon, White, Shades of White and Shades of Cinnamon.


Despite being a smaller size than the Ibicenco and Canario, these guys are huge characters. Super bright and intelligent, very affectionate and extremely loyal with their owners.

The need daily walking and enjoy a good run in a safe field. The Podenco Andaluz excels at obediences and love to please their owners.

Their life span is 10-12 years.
