Our network
The wonderful people that allow us to keep rescuing podencos.
We are humbled every day by the dedication and support we receive from the amazing people we work with who go above and beyond to help the dogs that are in need. Whether that is rescuing podencos off the street or out of the perreras, our wonderful network in Spain care for them in their kennels and in their homes, and do whatever it takes to get them ready for adoption.
And of course, our Hope for Podencos Champion - Life Like Charlie, who is a fantastic advocate and ambassador for the breed having adopted twice from us. Charlie promotes Hope For Podencos and donates generously, whilst also supporting a number of other charities who are all fighting for the same cause. We are incredibly grateful for Charlie, whose generosity has helped shape our future.
HFP Champion - Life Like Charlie
We have known Charlie for many years now, since he adopted his first Podenco Nala from us in 2019. Charlie has worked hard and built an incredible bond with Nala through dedicated training, patience and love that has seen her blossom. We weren’t surprised when Charlie and Nala became an internet sensation in early 2024, with Nala’s ‘mouth snappies’ entertaining millions on social media.
Not long after their rise to fame, Charlie felt like it was the right time to welcome a second podenco into his home, which led us to matching him with Monkey. We could not have done this without the hard work of Galgos del Sol who rescued and rehabilitated Monkey. She has settled in brilliantly and you can watch all of Charlie, Nala and Monkey’s adventures on @lifelikecharlie on both Tik Tok and Instagram.
With Charlie’s new found fame and platform, he helps us daily in every way he can. The thing we love the most about Charlie is his celebration and support of the breed which aligns so much with our ethos. Charlie is the first and only HFP Champion and we cannot thank him enough for his generous donations, shares and love of all things Podencos.
Viajando con Mimi.
For the past few years, we are so lucky to have been able to work with Oscar and Rafa at Viajando con Mimi, who transport all of our podencos to their new homes. The love and kindness they give the pods when in their care allows us to know they are safe on their travels.
But Oscar and Rafa do not stop at transport and also help us rescue and rehabilitate podencos who are in need. Oscar and his network (Mamen and Claudia we mean you!) and Rafa with his own charity - Mastines en la Calle.
ADA.
ADA is an association formed by a group of people, who joined forces to rescue and re-home animals that have been abused and abandoned (invisible to the majority), that are left helpless and forgotten.
As is common in Spanish rescues, whilst other dogs can be re-homed locally, podencos find themselves left behind due to the belief that they are not suitable as pets. We are working with ADA to help find these pods homes.
Casa de Postas.
The Postas House is a small refuge and recovery centre for abandoned animals located in the town of Almonte, Huelva. Belonging to a nonprofit association and without any kind of public aid and the association is only sustained thanks to donations.
Podencos are their passion, living in shared spaces with other dogs and secure spaces to have free time they are physically and psychologically rehabilitated and cared for by the incredible team.
GPAR.
GPAR is a registered Spanish charity and refuge based in Rute, Andalucia. It’s mission is to help all animals abandoned or in need - It is a sad fact of life, that there are so many stray, unwanted and unloved dogs in this area of Spain.
The charity has been running since 2008 and is totally self- financing. All the Spanish volunteers working at the refuge are employed elsewhere and run the refuge in their spare time in the mornings, evenings and weekends.
Finding caring homes for abandoned dogs is one of the most important challenges the team faces.
Los amigos de Bingo.
Los amigos de Bingo are a small shelter based in Seville and are close neighbours of Mastines En La Calle.
They only care for a small number of dogs at any one time, making sure they all get a high quality of care and focus from their team. Like many of our other partners tend to get stuck with Podencos who aren’t as easily adoptable in Spain where they aren’t always considered worthy pets. So we’ve agreed to help them find homes for their current and future Podencos as their breed specialist partner.
Mastines En La Calle.
Manoli, Mamen and Rafa rescue dogs from perreras, hunters and the streets and bring them into their association for rehabilitation and rehoming. Whilst they specialise in Spanish Mastin’s, they’ll never turn a dog in need away. We have been working with Rafa as part of our transport for many years so it is a privilege to grow our network and be trusted to re-home podencos in their care.
The association works closely with the FENPCA a newly formed not for profit organisation who are campaigning for the cruelty towards the hunting dogs of Spain to end.
The Podfather.
AKA - Nick, lives in Oria and has rescued and rehabilitated over 150 dogs of different breeds which have been re-homed around Europe. Podencos have become a passion of his, as of course they are with us!
Nick is planning on building some kennels at his home, but with a difference and wants to set up more of an indoor living space that has rooms with sofas and comfortable, safe spaces. The dogs in Nicks care come from a home set up where they learn some how to interact with people and other dogs, can be house trained and are already feeling loved.
Refugio San Anton Moron.
As you will see on our website some of our wonderful podencos are rescued and cared for by the incredible team at Refugio San Anton Moron.
An amazing group of people that rescue all dogs, but as they are in a hunting area have a large intake of podencos - be they form the street, hunters or dropped by the dog wardens. We work together to get these podencos into forever homes and keep fighting the good fight!
Rosy (private foster).
Rosy has been supporting the associations that rescue dogs for many years now. She is our guardian of pods in Malaga and is known locally for taking local stray podencos into her home - particularly mums and p[ups.
We are so lucky to work with Rosy, the dogs in her care get to live life as a pet - mixing with different dogs and cats (where possible) to help socialise thembefore the find their forever homes.
Rosy’s extensive knowledge is a constant support to the team as we continue to learn and adapt to the everchanging world of international rescue,
SOS Animales Cantalobos.
An amazing group of people that that work with the Town Halls of Salobrena, Almunecar, Castell Del Ferro & ATARFE, collecting stray animals 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, also in collaboration with Seprona and the Local Police.
A huge part of their work is the caring of the dogs until re-homes are confirmed, that includes intervention in rescues as well as the collection of animals, their veterinary care, physical and psychological rehabilitation, feeding and cleaning. On top of that they also champion legal issues such as cases against alleged animal abusers.
Together we are stronger.
Our network is growing again which is really exciting and means we can help even more podencos find their happy ever after. Thank you to every association, individual and small business that works with us so that we can continue to grow, fight for change and show the world how incredible these dogs are!
