MORE INFORMATION ON AMSTERDAM
Amsterdam has a back leg injury that has fully healed, but means he doesn’t always use that leg.
Amsterdam has been with our partners at GPAR since June 2024. . They found him barking outside their holiday home in the campo near a village not far from our shelter, having been tied to a tree by his hind legs with awful injuries.
They quickly realised that he had escaped from captivity, where we believe he had been tied up by a hind leg and having had two toes severed plus his achilles tendon cut. Unfortunately, they were only here on holiday, so they needed to find a solution very quickly.
We are amazed by such cruelty to a young friendly dog and really cannot understand why humans can be so cruel, but we are super proud of how Amsterdam has adapted to his disability and how he takes everything in his stride since being there. Whilst being at the shelter, he has received daily therapy on his injured leg by our volunteers which we believe has helped his leg drop lower to the floor. He still holds his leg up a lot of the time but this could be a bit of anxiety because of the injuries, or speaking to another adopter who has a pod with a similar background - we believe that it could be the harder surfaces that are making him more nervous of putting it down and this will improve when he is in a home environment.
He is a happy boy who shares his kennel with two other dogs, and they are all great friends. Nevertheless, he does like to get out into the patio to stretch his legs and to play with his other kennel friends.
He is a really good-natured boy considering the trauma he has been through. He loves to walk, run and he very rarely barks. He has no difficulties with traffic, meeting people in the street or other dogs outside the shelter. He knows commands in both English & Spanish.
Amsterdam is very good with children (our volunteers often bring their children to the shelter especially at the weekends). They love to play together in the tierra.
Amsterdam is neutered, vaccinated, and is tested and clear for all Mediterranean diseases. He is passported and available for adoption now.
